Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) - wound dressing systems that intermittently or continuously apply sub-atmospheric pressure on the wound bed. NPWT has become an increasingly important part of wound management over the last decade.

Vacuum Assisted Closure Systems

Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT; also known as vacuum-assisted closure) is a therapeutic approach that utilizes a vacuum dressing to promote the healing of large wounds.

1. Portable / Single use NPWT (sNPWT)

A small pocket size, canister-free, mechanically powered, disposable and portable. Mainly suitable for low to moderate exudate levels. The pressure is applied continuously and is not usually adjustable.

2. Conventional / Traditional Vacuum Assisted Closure System

Conventional systems include a canister for fluid collection from the wound. The pressure applied is adjustable, with continuous and intermittent modes of operation possible. Often powered by a main electricity source, traditional NPWT devices are used in hospitals for inpatients and this service can be provided for patients in their homes as home care NPWT application.

3. Vacuum Assisted Closure combined with a closed suction irrigation system

This modification of the conventional NPWT involves the retrograde instillation of a saline/ antiseptic or antibiotic substance into the sealed wound · Intermittent cleansing of micro debris· Delivery of medication directly on the wound site via installation feature · The minimal need for debridement · Decreased tissue bacterial levels · Enhanced granulation tissue formation through increased perfusion.
